Familiar landscapes
Small green blades poke the soles of my feet
The soil moist and dewy from recent rains
The wetness sticks to my feet and ankles
This sensation usually bothers me but, today I enjoy it
My legs lead me down a familiar path
One I have walked since 5 years of age
The wild green overgrown grass
endless in its pursuits to conquer whatever is in its view
I wander into it ,letting it swallow me whole
brief moments of stillness
allow the ears to hear the lively echoes of the ecosystem
my eyes watch the once muted hues become illuminated by the sun
wanting so badly to become
the vibrant green and crass yellow colors that paint the land
I climb the almost rotted-wood ladder to the top of the deer blind
the structure misshapen and warped from years of rain and sun exposure
I sit on the red chipped platform
drinking in the sight
the perspective
the beauty
the appreciation
of being surrounded by so much life and light
blissfully enchanted that this is my home.
